This blog entry is for my ladies. I went to a Women’s Conference over the weekend at the church we are attending here in the Dallas area. The theme of the conference was InfluenceHer. The challenge was to explore how we influence others and how we should be influencing others. It helped us challenge fears that are hindering us from wanting to say “Yes” to God and move into a sphere of influence in our world.
I’ve always assumed that the greatest influencers are the women who were well known or who already had a platform to reach others. So, I’ve never really considered myself to be an influencer, but I am. I am a woman, a daughter, a granddaughter, a sister, a cousin, an auntie, a friend, a fiancée, a counselor, and a co-worker. These are my platforms. I already have a host of people in my life who I can influence. We heard many stories of women who started Bible studies in their or lunch meetings in their schools or small advocacy organizations and now run international organizations for Christ.
We already have a platform. Now it is just finding your passion and purpose and allowing God to help you cultivate it to pour into the lives of others in your life, as Jesus did. Some of us know our purpose, but we are afraid to pursue it out of fear – fear of rejection, failure, or others.
So if you don’t know your passion and purpose, I encourage you to search your heart and explore the talents and gifts that God has given you. What is something that you cannot stop thinking about? What passion burns in your soul. If you know your purpose/passion but are afraid, I leave you with three things that I learned from Jada Edwards (First Lady of One Community Church in Plano, TX) to think about that can be barriers to you being an InfluenceHer:
1. Feelings of insecurity.
2. A desire to be inpresssive. Being impactful does not always mean being impressive.
3. Giving in to indulgence (continual sin).
Challenge the barriers. Overcome the barriers. Become the InfluenceHer that you were meant to be.
